Moved to new Server!

| Yesterday we did a beta test on the new server, which is now completed and we have fully moved our stuff. The results are great so far: it has been running for over 17 hours now with up to 300 users, VMaps enabled, and light server load. Accouns registrations and the manage sections in your profile are reopened. A big thanks goes out to Avy for doing most of the setup work involved. :) Though we couldn't do a full stress test yet, this server shows great promise. We are planning to try some heavy load events soon, to see how it will cope. Realmlist you can use it 78.47.101.41, after a few days you can set it back to logon.alphawow.net (depends on your ISP's dns cache refresh frequency). Some specs for the new server: AMD 64 X2 6000+ (2 cores running 3,0GHz each) 6 GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM 2 x 750GB High Speed HDD (read speed tested near 100MBps) 100mbit connection (not limited) I think this is also a good time to thank everyone who contributes our server by donation. They are the ones that mainly pay our server bills, so another big thanks to them! Enjoy playing again, in a lag free server this time. :) |  |

| Just a short notice to announce that we have updated our server to version 2.3.2. Everyone is asked to update their clients accordingly. You can update by running WoW from the Launcher.exe (just once), or download the patch from this link. After patching, you have to set your realmlist file again to logon.alphawow.net Update notes can be found here. In the meantime, hard setup work is being done on the new server by Avy, we're very happy to have him on the team. :) That's it, happy playing! |  |
Improving current server situation

| As you all know, the server has a lot of crashing trouble for the last 2 weeks. Despite all the work done on this server, there were not many improvements. Therefor we have decided to order a new server, at our first host. No quad core this time, but faster dual cores, since mangos isn't supporting multi-core anyways. There will still be enough RAM and the 100mbit connection we had before. We also have full control of the server this time, and Gentoo will be build from the core up to provide optimal results. The rough guideline is to have everything moved in about a week time from now. This time, there will be no nasty rollbacks, and the current server will stay online until we are all done with the new server. There will be some beta testing, to ensure final downtime will be reduced to only a few hours tops. Also, new account registrations will be temporary closed in a few days. To assist me with the technical aspects on server side managing, Avy has joined our team as co-administrator. Let's give him a warm welcome, but don't bother him too much with gm or dev things, so he has time to learn his way around, and focus on the job at hand. Welcome! We have also added 2 GM's to our team. First is GM Hoof, or Daede, you might know him from IRC. Second is GM Zeta, or adambiker, he has been a GM on our old server and has returned. Both of you, good luck on your new positions. All of the above, to return our quality level to former WoW.vtwout.NET level! :) |  |
WoW.vtwout.NET becomes AlphaWoW!

| After having WoW.vtwout.NET for about 2 years, I've decided it was time for something new. Behold, our new name: AlphaWoW! As you can see, I dug up my designing skills and created a new template for the website. The forums are now fully integrated into the website as well. You can post your feedback in this topic. Since we will be getting rid of the old domain name soon, everyone needs to update their realmlist.wtf file, and set the ip to logon.alphawow.net. The IRC channel has changed to #alphawow. Also, a Merry Christmas and the best wishes for the New Year from our server staff! |  |
