Improving server quality

Posted by: marcovtwout | Posted on: 15-10-2007 @ 00:40

Yesterday I installed the latest release from UDB (Unified Database, a combination of SilverDB and MODB).
ProjectSilvermoon was getting too messy for my taste, and this new database looks promising.

The Bug Trac system is about completed now and we've started to use it.
As a user, you can submit a ticket to the Trac system.
A developer will approve it to the Trac system, where you can follow it's progress.
Having everything neatly organised will help solving bugs faster and more efficiently.
This will aid us a lot in creating a more blizzlike database! :)

Over the past weeks I have gathered developer applications, and picked a few that will help out with these businesses.
Their names will be announced here soon.
That means you shouldn't bother a GM about fixing your bugs, it is not their tasks.
You can still report critical bugs to them though.

I can also tell you that the current situation, with peaks of high latency when many players are online, will be solved soon.
We have plans to move our server to another one, which can handle much more. :)
It is planned to happen within 2 weeks, so check the site often.

The site has recently been updated, it now uses query caching for less database use and more speed.

That's it for today's update, happy playing!

Looking for Developers

Posted by: marcovtwout | Posted on: 28-09-2007 @ 11:42

The last few weeks we have been active spreading word about the server, and hiring Game Masters.
Now it's time to take a look at server quality.

The bug report forum was filling up with so much things, there was no time for me to manage.
In the meantime I have coded a Bug Trac system, you can find a link in the left menu.
For now, users will still be submitting bugs into the forums, but the bugs will also be actively managed in the Trac system.
It's still in a beta phase, but we'll see how it works out.

To help out we are now looking for Developers.
There are 3-5 positions open, details can be found in this topic.
I will wait a few days to collect the applications, and decide on the positions next week.

Here's a movie to inspire all potential developers: youtube.com/watch?v=bhUAr-P_39U :)

300+ players online reached!

Posted by: marcovtwout | Posted on: 04-09-2007 @ 21:20

Yes yes, after only 2 months of having the Mangos server running, we have already reached 200 players online!
Congratulations, and a big thanks to everyone who contributed by voting over the past weeks. :D
To add some more numbers, we have over 5800 accounts and over 8000 characters.
With over 250 people active in the forums, I think we can safely say we have established a nice community. :)

It's been over a week ago now since we established the team of Game Masters.
The trial period is officially over now, and all have been proven to be worth part of the WoW.vtwout.NET team.
Thank you guys for the great ingame work so far! :)

For me, my studies have started again, so I'll have a bit less spare time to be hanging around.
Still, I am planning to create a team of developers, an applications form will be posted soon.
I'll also be working on a bugtracking system, to categorize bugs and track progress, to make our server the best blizzlike around. :)

That's all for now, enjoy playing people!

*Update: about 10 days later, we now have over 300 people online. Nice :D

Welcoming 5 new Game Masters

Posted by: marcovtwout | Posted on: 24-08-2007 @ 13:39

I have gathered over 30 GM applications over the past days.
Great to see so much interest from members to be helping out!

A selection of 5 have been made to be selected as a trial-GM.
This means for the first week, their job will be evaluated to see if they are really fit.
Here's a list with links to their introduction topics:

- Velshaer (Rho)
- Hades (Omicron)
- Rollenderups (Epsilon)
- Stephanos16 (Sigma)
- Vampira (Iota)

Last wednesday, the Outland opening event took place, and though not all went according to plan, I think I can say it was pretty succesful.
You can read an interesting report about it in this topic.
We wish everyone fun exploring the dangers of Outland. :)
